Pomowright — macOS menu bar timer
Outrun
distraction.
Pomowright turns your workday into interval training: 25-minute focus sprints, short recoveries, and a long break every fourth lap — all ticking away in your menu bar. Deep work, on autopilot.
The circuit
Six laps to a
faster day.
Pomowright wraps the classic pomodoro technique in a native menu bar app — everything you need to focus, nothing that interrupts.
Live countdown in the menu bar
The timer ticks away in your menu bar, tinted by phase — coral red while you focus, soft green while you rest. Glance up, never wonder.
Classic 25/5/15 rhythm, your way
25-minute focus sprints, 5-minute short breaks, and a 15-minute long break every fourth session — every duration adjustable in Settings.
Session dots & daily totals
Four dots track your progress to the long break, and today's completed sprints and total focus minutes accumulate automatically.
Gentle chime + notifications
A soft Glass chime and a native macOS notification mark every phase change, so you stay in rhythm even when you've looked away.
Optional keep-awake during sprints
Ask Pomowright to hold a real macOS power assertion while you focus, so a sprint never dies to idle sleep — released the moment it ends.
100% private
No accounts, no analytics, no network calls. Your focus history lives in UserDefaults on your Mac — nowhere else.

Under the hood
Race-spec
engineering.
Pomowright is a Cloverwright product — native Apple platforms built in Swift, held to the same standard as our client work.
Universal native binary
A universal Swift binary that runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, for macOS 13 (Ventura) and later. No Electron, no webview, no background daemons — it launches in a blink and renders like a first-party macOS citizen.
Native Swift state machine
PomodoroManager is a single ObservableObject driving phase, countdown, and daily totals behind a MenuBarExtra scene. One object owns the whole race: sprint timing, recoveries, session dots, and daily totals.
Real power assertions
The optional keep-awake toggle talks directly to macOS power management via IOPMAssertionCreateWithName. The assertion is created when a sprint starts and released the moment it ends, pauses, or the app quits — your Mac can never get stuck awake.
System sounds & notifications
Phase changes play the system Glass chime via NSSound and post a native UNNotification — familiar macOS sounds and banners, zero custom audio assets, zero surprises.
Open & private
All state lives in UserDefaults on your Mac — no network requests, no analytics, no account. And the full Xcode project ships with the download, so you can tweak durations, colors, or the menu bar glyph yourself.
Race briefing
Questions,
answered.
Everything you need to know before the starting gun — rules, equipment, and the fine print.
Q01What is the pomodoro technique?
Work in focused 25-minute sprints with short breaks between them, and take a longer 15-minute break after every fourth sprint. It's a simple, proven way to beat procrastination and protect deep work — Pomowright just automates the rhythm so you don't have to watch the clock.
Q02Can I change the durations?
Yes. Settings lets you set the focus, short break, and long break lengths in minutes — 50/10, 90/20, whatever suits your rhythm. Changes apply to the next session of each type.
Q03Will Pomowright work on Apple Silicon?
Yes — it's a universal Swift binary that runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
Q04Does the keep-awake option drain the battery?
Preventing idle sleep does use more power than sleeping, but the assertion only exists while a focus sprint is actively running — it's released the instant the sprint ends, pauses, or Pomowright quits. It's off by default; enable it in Settings if you want it.
Q05Will I be notified when a session ends?
Yes. A gentle Glass chime plays and a native macOS notification appears on every phase change, so breaks start on time even if you've stepped away from the screen.
Q06Is it really free?
Yes — free forever, no trial, no subscription, no account. The download even includes the complete Xcode project source, so you can hack on it yourself.
